CEO’s Report This year Northern Territory Major Events Company has created and curated unique and unforgettable events that celebrated the uniqueness of the Territory and its connection with Aboriginal culture. The Company took a renewed approach to customer experience with a focus on event quality, which led to the introduction of successful new programming initiatives, like the new 360-degree stage BASSment at BASSINTHEGRASS, Australian first ‘Track to Town’ at the betr Darwin Triple Crown Supercars and the inaugural Buy Blak Markets at Parrtjima – Festival in Light. Additionally, efforts were made to enhance the profile of the Territory’s unique events through high profile ambassadors, including UFC champion Alex Volkanovski, Supercars driver Will Davison and former AFL great Nathan Buckley. Being accountable and measuring the impact of events is a crucial element of our success. This year’s independent research shows that six major events delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company in 2023-2024 had a positive impact, with 72.6 per cent of survey participants agreeing or strongly agreeing the events made them feel proud to be a Territorian. The major events attracted 145,694 attendees and generated 410,206 visitor nights, contributing $155.45 million in gross expenditure stimulus for the Northern Territory’s economy of which $98.36 million was new money to the NT. The research also highlighted a sample of 20 events supported by Northern Territory Major Events in 2023-2024 generated 169,084 visitor nights in the NT and delivered a total gross expenditure stimulus of $59.31 million. These results echoed previous years research with 95 per cent of those surveyed agreeing or strongly agreeing that it is important for the NT Government to support events like these. These results highlight the importance of these events to local economies, how they become part of the character of the place, bringing more Australians together, and shaping communities and livelihoods. They also create pathways to improve the capability and capacity of the Territory leaving a long-lasting legacy. Major events help shift perception and desire to travel to the Territory in the future, further highlighting a point of difference when it comes to events and destination. 10
