THE WHISPERS OF THE WETLANDS. We are well and truly into the most magical time of the year in the Tahbilk Wetlands - autumn. Autumn is a time for bringing out thick socks and cosy jumpers; fresh air and rosy cheeks. In the Tahbilk Wetlands you will find yellows, reds and auburn, while flowering wattle and banksia frame your meander. These new flowering plants also bring with them new bird life and sounds. The sounds of the birds bring music to our ears. Why? Because birds indicate to us our wetlands and wildlife reserve is healthy. It means the air is clean, food is available, plants are healthy, and the birds feel safe to raise their young. It wasn’t that long ago I was wondering about the birds. In a recent visit to Hong Kong, what struck me was the lack of insect and bird-life. It was quiet except for the hum of the traffic. I found the lack of birds incredibly unsettling, and I’ve contemplated it often since my visit. My sentiments are framed by the following poem I penned when back home: – Azure Kingfisher 08 Tahbilk Pinterest board with all the visuals on our birds - https://www.pinterest.com.au/tahbilkwinery/tahbilk-wetlands-wildlife-reserve-australian-birds/ www.tahbilk.com.aufollow@TahbilkWineryfollow@TahbilkWineryfollow@TahbilkWineryjohnpurbrick@tahbilk.com.au
