Water Polo boys fly the Aussie flag In Term 2, six current and a number of ex-students achieved selection in the National Men’s Senior, Junior, Youth and Cadet water polo teams, which saw them head off to international competitions. Chaz Poot (ON 2015) was named in the Aussie Sharks (the National Men’s team) that competed at the FINA World Championships in Budapest in June and July. The Aussie Sharks then travelled to Strasbourg, France for the World League Super Final held from 23 to 29 July 2022. Toby Goldschmidt (ON 2020), Edward Wydell (ON 2020) and Andrej Grgurevic (ON 2021) all gained selection in the 16-man Australian Junior Men’s team which competed in Serbia and Montenegro from 4–20 July. This tour helped the players prepare for the World Junior Championships in 2023. Ryan Goldschmidt (Year 12), our 2022 Captain of Water Polo, was selected in the Australian Youth Men’s team that competed at the FINA Youth Men’s World Championships, held in Belgrade, Serbia from 11–19 August 2022. Lewis Saupin (Year 10) was selected in the Australian Cadet Men’s water polo team bound for the first FINA World Championships for the cadet age group, held in Volos, Greece from 21–27 August 2022. Director of Aquatics, Mr Ryan Moar, is thrilled with the successes of the Water Polo program: ‘It is amazing to see these water polo players continuing their pursuit to be the best they can be. For Ryan and Lewis, who are still at school, the wealth of knowledge they can feed back into our Water Polo program and College community from what they learn on tour is so valuable. In the case of Chaz, Eddie, Toby and Andrej it is exciting to think that our program has contributed in some way to the national program.’ Images from top: Ryan Goldschmidt; Lewis Saupin; Bottom: Jackson McCleery (2nds Water Polo)
