Scenery and service on the Red Centre Tour The Red Centre Tour doesn’t just provide boys with the opportunity to experience the grandeur of the unique landscapes of central Australia and learn about Indigenous culture, history and challenges. It also provides service opportunities. We showed our gratitude to our hosts, traditional owner John Liddle and his family, by helping with infrastructure projects and spending time with to local children in the Hermannsburg community, including on the football oval. In late-June and early-July, the boys and staff visited sites of breathtaking beauty such as Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon, the Finke River and Ormiston Gorge in the MacDonnell Ranges. Mr Mick Madden Head of Service Learning/Science Teacher 1 The Newington boys created a tunnel for their new friends after the match. 2 Vasili Filippatos, supported by Mr Ross Turner, on the tools at the Liddle property. 3 A set of donated rugby league jerseys were presented to the delighted children of Hermannsburg to thank them for allowing the Newington boys to play footy with them at Hermannsburg Oval. 4 The boys learned new skills as they attached guttering to the newly constructed shelter. 5 The touring party witnessing the sunset at Uluru. 6 Austen Schofield and Tom Chanter preparing a hole for a toilet facility. 7 The smiles say it all! Service can come in various shapes and forms, but it is an effective way for people from diverse walks of life to come together and learn from each other. 8 The Green Team celebrate together after the match.
