Year 8 History Leaders colloborate with Wyvern boys Year 8 students are relishing the opportunity to be History Learning Leaders, which involves collaborating with Wyvern students in Years 3 to 6 on History assignments. The Year 8 leaders guide their Wyvern peers through the research process, give tips on formatting their work and advised on how to present their work at the Wyvern History Challenge Exhibition at Wyvern on Tuesday 13 September (Week 9). The participants’ final products were displayed there. There were prizes for outstanding concept, process and product. The older boys learn something new during every session with the budding historians. Their enthusiasm is captured in the responses below, in which they share their enjoyment of being History Leaders. James Wright and Matthew Aquilina What the boys said: Evan Grillakis ‘I like to attend the sessions because I am extremely passionate about history and love the knowledge and perspective studying it offers. I am well-versed in classical and modern history and am extremely passionate about discussing it.’ Benjamin Chamberlain ‘I like to be part of this opportunity as I believe I can contribute to the discussions and help the students with the analysing and writing skills. It adds to my leadership skills and my ability to help mentor younger students with more complicated tasks.’ George Evans ‘I find history enjoyable and interesting. I really like the experience of guiding these boys. I feel collaborating and leading these boys will benefit me in the future.’ William Balding ‘As a Year 8 History Leader, I can make the Year 3–6 boys excited about history. I feel that history can be a lot of fun if taught correctly and I love to help these boys find something that they really enjoy about history and make them excited about history going forward.’ Ruben Merani Tom Wilson-Brown and John Hutton ‘I am very interested in history and enjoy the subject a lot. I am enjoying the opportunity to share my enthusiasm with younger Newington boys.
