A part time Education Officer delivers this to the community via the following programmes: • Enviroschools. • Kids’ Edible Gardens. • Sustainable Living Programme. • This service is funded from targeted rates. 4.3 Summary of district-specific issues 4.3.1 Composting Council lease a site on Wither Road to a compost operator. This lease expires on31 December 2015 with the operator allowed an additional twelve months to remove the stockpiles of composted materials. The proximity of this site to residential development and a nearby school has indicated that future composting operations will have to be relocated to an alternative location to remove any adverse impact on the amenity of neighbours. The intention is to receive, shred and containerise the incoming greenwaste before onward transportation to a new location where the material will then be placed in windrows and composted. From the community’s perspective there should be no material change. Greenwaste will be delivered to, and compost products made available for resale from, the existing site at Wither Road. Actual composting will take place elsewhere. The greenwaste material may be linked to the composting of Grape Marc material from the viticulture sector. Page 16
