Whilst this location will be kept as the reception point for the incoming green waste the actual composting will be done elsewhere. The existing stockpiles will be removed by the end of 2016. Thereafter incoming material will be received, shredded and exported to a new location for composting. Compost material will be resupplied to the Wither Road site for resale to the community. Having removed the stockpiles this will free up the site for increased throughput of greenwaste materials. The future use of any spare ground at the site will be reviewed after the opening of the CIF, if approved, in 2016. The wine industry is currently working towards a solution for the processing of grape marc into some form of compost. The greenwaste would form part of this mix of materials so an increase in collected volumes would be beneficial to the region as a whole, returning organic material to the soils and further reducing the amount of greenwaste material currently sent to landfill. The CIF will also provide materials that could be suitable for composting eg; untreated timber, GIB and fines materials from the sorting process. Page 35
