The dedication, creativity, and hard work from many have not only driven our achievements but have also continually pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the events industry. Through the Event Funding Program, Northern Territory Major Events Company supported nearly 60 events on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, through funding, media and marketing support and operational advice. This included the Garma Festival, Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, Chariots of Thunder, Electric Storm and Alice Springs Beanie Festival. In curating a strong calendar of activities, the company also attracted the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters and the Australia Cup Playoffs, the nation’s largest knockout competition of any sport. Extraordinary economic benefits, customer satisfaction, and media coverage were observed from the six major events delivered. In April 2024, the elusive million-dollar barramundi was caught on the third-to-last day of Million Dollar Fish Season 9, with 19-year-old Territory local Keegan Payne becoming the first millionaire and an instant celebrity. Parrtjima- Festival in Light welcomed new creative and delivery partners, Grumpy Sailor and We Are Gather. More than 80 First Nations artists, along with 20 local Aboriginal businesses and art centres participated in the inaugural three-night Buy Blak Markets during the opening weekend offering art, bush foods, jewellery and beauty products. BASSINTHEGRASS had its first international headliner, US rapper and global sensation Macklemore alongside a record 42 artists on the line-up. Another initiative included an Australian first at the betr Darwin Triple Crown, with the Track to Town activation bringing all 25 Supercars onto the open road and into the Darwin CBD for driver’s signings. Red CentreNATS also introduced new additions and activations such as the Fringe Festival that had car enthusiasts celebrating Father’s Day weekend in style in Alice Springs. As I reflect on another busy and rewarding year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Northern Territory Major Events Company’s incredible team and all our partners who have played a vital role in the Company’s success. The dedication, creativity, and hard work from many have not only driven our achievements but have also continually pushed the boundaries of what is possible in the events industry. The portfolio of events they deliver and the wider event offerings we support, are positively building communities and enhancing the way of life for all Territorians and visitors to enjoy.
