Our People Workforce Development Northern Territory Major Events Company invests in professional development throughout the financial year covering all aspects of compliance training and professional development for all staff. Compliance training – all staff, including new employees, undergo a program of induction and basic first aid training to provide confidence to be able to respond to any incidents that may occur on event site. Events staff have completed White Card training to oversee building of major events facilities and guarantee safe work environments. Staff participated in a workshop designed to enhance their critical writing skills and were introduced to tips for writing succinctly and clearly. To help managers adapt to all facets of the rapidly changing workplace environment, we provided the opportunity to attend a negotiation and contract management training specifically designed for NT Major Events and delivered by industry specialists. Various staff travelled intra- and inter-state to some of Australia’s largest events to gather ideas and insights. We have supported three employees through the accredited Venue Management School to enhance skills and knowledge in planning and running events. This two-year program is a great stepping stone for our events staff’s careers. Our leaders opened themselves to a 360-degree review that involved nearly all staff in the organisation and promoted transparency and a growth-mindset. Upcoming leaders within the business continue to receive coaching sessions to make sure they can lead NT Major Events in the future. An external communications agency conducted comprehensive media training for executives and senior staff to ensure a thorough understanding of how media works and how to best use media as a communications tool. We have invested time and resources into student placements, traineeships, and work experience opportunities. This allowed young talent to gain insights into the major events industry and enabled our staff to share their experience and skills and grow professionally and personally by mentoring others. Staff Engagement The Company’s team get together three times a year to reflect on achievements, develop learnings and celebrate achievements. As part of these sessions, we take time to gain greater insight of each other through stories and highlight strengths both individually and collectively. We value the Aboriginal culture of the different Territory regions we live and work on. In the coming year we are embarking on the formalisation of our own Reconciliation Action Plan to document the work we are doing. Business Systems Focus for this year was data security and AI developments. NT Major Events developed an AI policy to guide staff in the use of these systems and ensuring that confidential/private and trademarked information is safeguarded for the business. An Enterprise Resource Planning audit was undertaken before renewal of the finance system to determine areas of refinement for a positive impact to business processes. This involved gap analysis which identified areas for improvement and a recommendation document was compiled for actioning by NTMEC which is currently ongoing. 56
