BASSINTHEGRASS, the Territory’s biggest musical festival and one of the biggest in the country this year, saw more than 16,000 people enjoy non-stop entertainment from 42 acts, including international stars, the nation’s hottest artists and talented local Territory performers. Renowned for its unmatched beachside location, tropical palms, bankable blue skies and serene sunsets, this multi-award-winning event continued in 2024 to innovate and provide value and excitement for music lovers of all ages. This year’s event also saw the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme implemented, offering a helping hand to those with hidden disabilities a way to better BASSINTHEGRASS. They could wear a discreet lanyard decorated with tiny sunflowers which signalled to staff, who are trained in the program, that support may be needed – covering anything from helping people with wayfinding, providing a safe resting area, or giving directions to essential facilities such as restrooms or medical tents. A prelude to BASSINTHEGRASS was the first ever BASSINTHECITY event, a free laneway show, on Wednesday 15 May in vibrant Austin Lane. Attendees enjoyed Darwin’s tropical vibe with live music from festival musos, street art murals, local bars, eateries, and markets. Alongside the main stages, BASSINTHEGRASS included the Good Vibes Marketplace, a Wellness Zone and Pirate Life Silent Disco. Fans also flocked to a new 360-degree stage, BASSment, dedicated to dance music. The 12-hour music-fest ended on a high with thousands singing along to international rap sensation, Macklemore, and his Glorious anthem, as well as electronic music act, What So Not. While other famous Australian music festivals have suffered in recent years, it’s a testament to the enduring appeal of BASSINTHEGRASS and its total event experience that continues to pull in the crowds.
