2023/2024 Supported Events We have evolved the Event Funding Program to better serve and support the local events sector and attract new events to the Territory, with the focus to help drive and enhance tourism and the liveability of Territorians and instil a positive social impact on the community. Applications were simplified to three categories, streamlining the process for access to greater funding: Aboriginal Cultural Events, Cultural Events, and Sporting Events. Enhanced transparency with the addition of a weighting table in the Event Funding Guidelines, giving applicants a clearer understanding of Northern Territory Major Events Company’s EFP priorities. Introduced an “application standard” for weighting, encouraging well-developed and professional applications. Established a stringent standard: ineligible applications will not progress to consideration, streamlining the process and reducing administrative efforts. Added a “Top Tips” page to the guidelines, offering insights from previous rounds and highlighting available support to empower applicants. For applications exceeding $100,000, we now require direct contact with our team to ensure alignment with expectations and standards. The 2023 – 24 Event Funding Program supported 58 events including the Chariots of Thunder, Barunga Festival, Alice Springs Beanie Festival and Thailand Grand Festival. Research collected from 20 event EFP events that are supported by NTMEC in 2023-24 showed they were responsible for generating 169,084 visitor nights. $59.31 million was the total amount of spending generated in the NT because of these event funded program events. $39.58 million of new money direct spending impact in host regions and $49.95 million of new money direct spending impact in the NT. 28
