The ASMG had not taken place since 2018 due to the effects of COVID-19 on travel and participation, The Warm Up was held to reignite interest in the event and generate awareness and support in the local community. Legendary Aussie music icon Paul Kelly headlined the concert, with national artist Steph Strings and Central Australian talent the James Range Band opening for the musician famous for hits like ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’ and ‘How to Make Gravy’. Thousands of music lovers packed Anzac Oval to listen, with a total of 4327 attendances recorded. More than 621 people took part in the Colour Frenzy, quickly getting covered in coloured powder as they followed the course. The Red Centre Mile was run in collaboration with the Alice Springs Running and Walking Club and attracted 176 competitors who battled it out for first place across a range of categories. Other entertainment enjoyed by attendees included giant games, the Alice Springs Reptile Petting Zoo, AFL activities by AFL NT, face painting, a mechanical surfboard, mini golf and a podium photo space. The free event succeeded in bringing the community together and drummed up excitement and enthusiasm for the ASMG in 2024. The Warm Up event took place to mark one year until the return of the Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG) to be held 12-19 October 2024.
