It also provides the legislation for the occupational health and safety of staff employed in the water supply operation. National Environmental Standards for Sources of Human Drinking Water Regulations - Provide territorial authorities powers to control both water abstraction and discharge consents in areas upstream of drinking water abstraction points Enacted in June 2008. Water Supply Bylaw MDC– is currently under review but defines local laws and standards in the design and operation of the reticulation system and the customers connecting to the reticulation. SNZ PAS4509(2008) New Zealand Fire Service Firefighting Water Supplies Code of Practice - Whilst the Code of Practice does not have statutory powers it is the basis for partnership between the fire service and territorial and local authorities for the provision of water firefighting purposes in urban fire districts. 2.6 What We Currently Provide Currently the Council has five levels of services pertaining to water supply. Achievement against these standards is judged through seven ‘performance indicators’ which are reported in the LTP/Annual Report. The performance measures were adjusted through the Annual Plan process in 2013 to better reflect the needs of the customers and ability to accurately and consistently measure them. Council’s reported performance since year 2011/12 are shown in Figure 3. Page 20
