Figure 12 Domestic Water Consumption – International Comparison (litres/person/day) 3.3 Demand Impact on Assets 3.3.1 Blenheim – Sources, and Treatment Substantial works were required to the Blenheim water supply to meet the Drinking Water Standards. Additional capacity was provided as part of the overall upgrade works. The Bomford Road Water Treatment Plant and the associated bores five bores had a consented capacity of 330 litres/sec. The consent and abstraction volume was increased to 530 litres/sec. by drilling three new bores and redeveloping one of the existing bores at Grove Road. One of the existing bores at Bomford Street and one at Auckland Street were abandoned. The increased output from Bomford Road (re-named Central Water Treatment Plant) allows the Andrew Street bore and treatment facility to be de-commissioned but it will be retained for future contingency Pre-Upgrade Post- Upgrade Plant Bores Capacity Treatment Bores Capacity Treatment Year Bomford 5 330 l/sec Lime pH 6 530 l/s Lime pH 2011 Street/Central Correction Correction WTP UV Disinfection Middle Renwick 3 180 l/s Caustic 3 180 l/s Caustic soda 2009 Road Soda pH pH Correction Correction UV Disinfection Andrew Street 1 75 l/s Caustic De-commission 2012 Soda pH Correction Blenheim Storage The Blenheim upgrades also included an increase in water storage capacity to provide additional capability to balance peak demands and provide security for power failure to the Page 46
