Marlborough District Council Roading Assets - Activity Management Plan 2015 - 2018 SECTION 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.6.10 Traffic Services 1.6.10.1 Physical Description Traffic Services encompass all road marking, signage and delineation to aid in the safe and efficient movement of traffic throughout the Council road network. These may be either attached to the road surface (pavement marking, raised reflectorised pavement markers (RRPM’s or ‘cats eyes’) or beside (or sometimes overhead) the road traffic lane (signs, edge marker posts, sight rails, etc). Types of Traffic Services within the Council road network include, but are not limited to: Non-intersection Pavement Markings (centrelines, lane lines, edge lines); Intersection Pavement Markings (limit lines, lane arrows, right turn bays, cycle lanes); Miscellaneous Markings (messages, symbols, pedestrian crossings, railway crossings, RRPM’s); Delineation and Hazard Markers (edge marker posts, sight rails); Regulatory Signs (Give Way, Stop, parking); Warning Signs – permanent or temporary (curve warning, pedestrian signs); Guide Signs (directions and distances); Tourist Signs (features, establishments); Motorist Services Signs (rest areas, toilets); Information Signs (street name blades, features) Guardrails; Traffic Islands (roundabouts, splitter islands); Temporary traffic management such as for special event road closures, e.g. ANZAC day parade, etc. are included in this activity.
