Marlborough District Council Roading Assets - Activity Management Plan 2015 - 2018 SECTION 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.6.14 Wharves and Jetties 1.6.14.1 Introduction This section is has been written in line with the Marlborough DC Wharves and Jetties Policy (full text in section 6.14.5) which sets out the strategic importance level of public jetties nominated by council as of importance to the overall sounds transport network. 1.6.14.2 Asset Description The strategic policy sets out the desirable scenario where community groups take up responsibility for condition monitoring and maintenance. All have boarding stairs and some also have ships ladders. The original group of rail iron jetties were built in the 1950 to 1970 era. Some of these older jetties have been retrofitted to extend their useful life or have had damage repairs which have been sufficient to have improved the structure. 1.6.14.3 Asset Maintenance and Renewal Asset maintenance and renewal typically consists of three levels of intervention: Routine maintenance Component replacement Renewal (replacement of the entire structure) Maintenance works are identified through a two-yearly inspection by a qualified structure inspector. 8 October 2014 Page 124 of Section 1
