Marlborough District Council Roading Assets - Activity Management Plan 2015 - 2018 SECTION 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY As a bridge approaches the end of its useful life it typically can be expected to require periodic strengthening to maintain full legal load capacity. In the event that strengthening is not considered economic due a lack of demand (i.e. a very low volume road), the bridge will typically be posted with a weight limit and/or speed limit to preserve the integrity and safe operation of the structure. These restrictions then remain in place until such time as the bridge is strengthened, replaced, or otherwise removed from service.
