Marlborough District Council Roading Assets - Activity Management Plan 2015 - 2018 SECTION 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The population of Marlborough increased by 3.0% between 1996 to 2001, 7.6% between 2001 to 2006, and 2.0% between 2006 and 2013. The growth rate, for each period, was similar to the national average which was 3.3% and 7.8%, but has slowed compared to the national increase of 5.3% for the last period. The actual population figures for Marlborough District for the period 1996 to 2013 are shown in Figure 4.3.1.1 Figure 4.3.1.1 : Marlborough Population Growth The Region has continued population and residential growth over the last 5 years (especially Blenheim) with people moving into the area and the regular influx of seasonal workers keeping pressure on the housing market. 1.4.3.2 Growth Projections The population of Marlborough is forecast to grow a total 1.7% in the period 2013 to 2021 and a total of 1.3% over the following 10 years to 2031 (Statistics NZ Sub-national population projections) which will result in the population reaching nearly 45,500 by 2031. This will result in an additional 3,270 households being created over this period at around 180 new households per year.
