Marlborough District Council Roading Assets - Activity Management Plan 2015 - 2018 SECTION 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.6.18 Special Purpose Roads 1.6.18.1 Physical Description The Rainbow Road from SH63 to the access road to the Rainbow Ski field is declared as a ‘Special Purpose Road’ (SPR). This road is 16.9km long, has an average width of 5.1m and is sealed for the full length. Figure 6.18.1a: Rainbow Road Location 1.6.18.2 Age and Current Condition The existing surfacing is a combination chip seals, mostly grade 4, varying in age from 2 to 14 years. Most surfacing is in reasonable condition but some of the older seals are showing signs of wear. All inventory and condition data is managed in RAMM. 1.6.18.3 Level of Service The specified level of service is the same as other sealed pavements (refer Section 6.1). The level of service for availability, especially during winter, is an issue. Restricted access to the ski field during snow events does generate some negative feedback, therefore additional effort is required over winter to keep the open and safe. 30 September 2014 Page 139 of Section 1
