Marlborough District Council Roading Assets - Activity Management Plan 2015 - 2018 SECTION 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.6.13 Car Parks 1.6.13.1 Physical Description The purpose of parking infrastructure is to provide an adequate supply of car parking for visitors to commercial, recreational and business areas. Council offers 3 types of parking facilities: Off street car parking areas – metered, non-metered and leased On street parking (kerb-side parking) – metered and non-metered One multi-level car parking building Blenheim and Picton both have formalised off street parking, and have been subject to Parking Studies in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Blenheim, Picton, Renwick, Havelock, Waikawa, and Seddon all have regulated on street parking in their shopping centres and near facilities such as schools. These areas have not yet been a subject of Parking Studies. Marlborough District Council have also recently had a multi-level car parking building built with 4 parking level’s, this has made a considerable difference to the number of parking spaces available to the CBD users in Blenheim. A summary of the available parking is below: Blenheim The regulated parking area is bounded by Henry Street to the west, Francis Street to the south, Sinclair Street to the east and John Street to the north and includes the new car parking building in Alfred Street and the Railway Station car park off Sinclair Street to the northeast of the CBD. However on street parking is maintained as part of the roading asset (i.e. pavement, surfacing, pavement marking, etc) and that is known to be in good condition. Most of the off street parking has only been recently constructed (due to development works) and is also in good condition.
